CuS(Cu + 2 S·Cu 2+ [S 2 ])

[Chemical composition] There are only a small amount of Fe, Ag, Se, and Pb, which are simple minerals with complex structures.

The crystal structure has a complex layer (Fig. L-10): Cu 2+ is located in an equilateral triangle composed of three S 2- , the corners of each triangle are connected to each other in layers, and the triangle occupied by S 2- The top of the corner is a shared corner of the corresponding tetrahedron, while the remaining corners of the tetrahedron are occupied by [S 2 ] 2- . Cu + is located in the center of the four sides. Thus, the layer connected by the CuS 3 triangle and the CuS 4 tetrahedron located above and below the copper- blue complex layer structure. In this structure, both S2- and [S 2 ] 2- ions and Cu + and Cu 2+ ions are present at the same time. Therefore, copper blue is a structure between a simple sulfide and a complex sulfide.

[] Single crystal form is extremely rare, usually in powder form, or coal ash is a film-like assembly attached to the top of other sulfides.

[Physical properties] indigo blue; gray streaks; metallic luster; opaque, transparent thin green sheet. Cleavage parallel {0001} is complete. Hardness 1.5 to 2. The relative density is 4.67. Crisp.

[genesis and occurrence] is mainly formed in exogenous action and is the most common mineral in the secondary enrichment zone of copper-bearing sulphide deposits.

[Identification characteristics] Indigo blue, low hardness. The block turns purple after being suffocated.

[Main use] Copper ore minerals are often used together with other copper minerals as copper ore.
